Amar Kanwar

Amar Kanwar (born in 1964, New Delhi, India) began as a documentary filmmaker, subsequently expanding his practice to multi-channel video installations. He graduated from the Film school in the Mass Communications Research Center of Jamia Millia Islamia University and History department of the University of Delhi (New Delhi). Amar Kanwar’s works were exhibited at such places as Guggenheim Museum, New York (2012); Art Institute of Chicago (2013-2014); the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2013-2014); Thyssen — Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna (2013; 13th Istanbul Bienniale; Fotomuseum in Zurich (2012); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2008); Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi (2015); Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo (2006); 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art; The 56th Carnegie International; Edinburg Arts Festival. Kanwar has also participated in Documenta 11, 12 and 13 in Kassel (2002, 2007, 2012) and has had retrospectives at film festivals including the 5th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (2012); the 13th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival (2011); the Documentary Dream Show, Tokyo (2010); the Parallel Perspectives Film Festival, Hyderabad (2008); and the 9th International Short Film Festival, Bangladesh (2005). He lives and works in New Delhi.
