Aleksandr Barkovskiy
Alexander Barkovsky (born in 1979, Tashkent, Uzbekistan) received a classical education at the Benkov Republican College of Arts in Tashkent in book illustration. From 2001 to 2003 he attended Yury Shabelnikov’s lectures at Moscow Museum of Modern Art. In 2010 he graduated from film director courses at the Goethe Institute in Tashkent. Alexandr has specialised in video art, photography and photo collage since 2005. In 2009 Aleksandr Barkovskiy received a grant from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as part of its support for the culture of small peoples for continuation of the series of Gypsy Madonnas. In 2013 a work from this series was sold in an auction at Sotheby’s in London. Four works from the series are being exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum Art4.ru (Moscow). He live and works in Uzbekistan.
